The 18-month Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy is an exciting, intense, and career-changing experience for nurses who are committed to leading health care practice changes for older adults. The purpose of the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy is to develop the leadership skills of geriatric nurses in positions of influence in a variety of health care settings. This leadership academy prepares geriatric nurses to effectively lead interdisciplinary teams to impact system change and improve the quality of health care for older adults and their families.

Sigma Theta Tau International: Board Leadership Development Academy

The Board Leadership Development Academy offers all nurses, whether they are Sigma Theta Tau International honor society members or not, an invaluable resource for personal mentoring and individualized leadership development.  This program is a two-tiered experiential, personal mentored leadership development program that is comprised of a foundational board development leadership skills course provided online, followed by an individually mentored board leadership development academy.

The two-year Board Leadership Development Academy prepares nurses to be knowledgeable and responsive leaders on national and international boards. The focus of the program is on increasing knowledge and skills in the areas of:

The Chapter President’s Leadership Training discusses the role of the chapter president as leader mentor and coach, Lists 6 techniques for engaging a core group of volunteers and promoting second generation leadership.

The Growing Grass Roots online course was developed to teach NAPNAP members and Chapter Officers how to use the legislation action center (CAPWIZ). CAPWIZ allows members to search for federal bills by state and allows members to send out calls to action to their respective legislative representatives.

Symposium charts course for advanced practice registered nurses

The leadership role of advanced practice registered nurses in patient-centered medical homes is the topic of a Tuesday, April 5 day-long symposium at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

National experts, including leaders from NCQA and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, will deliver talks and lead panels to bring clarity to accreditation requirements; discuss new opportunities under ACA; highlight nurse-led medical homes that are models for quality care delivery; and deliver new data about the quality of care related to their use.
