Report Available from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, at the Insitute of Medicine

The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, released by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in October 2010, is now available in hardcover.

The Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Initiative on the Future of Nursing, at the IOM, examined the capacity of the nursing workforce to meet the demands of a reformed health care and public health system.  In its report, the committee offers recommendations that collectively serve as an action-oriented blueprint to:
  • ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training,
  • improve nursing education,
  • provide opportunities for nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts, and
  • improve data collection for workforce planning and policy making.
